​1.  Worksheet: Theme in Hatchet
2.  Worksheet: Cause & Effect in Hatchet
3.  Essay: Problems in the Environment--Complete the Essay Planning graphic organizer
4.  Movie Poster Project: 
Create a poster for a movie based on the novel Hatchet. 
GUIDELINES: 
a.  Give a movie title that is properly capitalized. The movie title does NOT need to be the same as the novel.
b. Draw and color a scene from the story. Do NOT include a picture of a hatchet. Be original. Ideas include another symbolic item from the novel, a setting or scene from the book, or a character close-up. Do NOT include images from the climactic moment (tornado, moose) in the novel. Remember, the image should take up the majority of the poster space and should be drawn vertically.
c.  Include the name of the actor who will play the main character.
d.  Create an original tagline for the movie, something to catch the viewer's attention. e.  Include a movie release date & a movie production company name. (Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers, Universal, 20th Century Fox, Pixar, etc.)
f.  Write your name on the back of the poster.

5.  Don't forget to save your project with a name like State Name & Your first name
6.  Select SHARE and share with me at my email address: plinn@sharylandisd.org

2.  Finish labeling & coloring U.S. map (colors based on a physical map of the U.S.)

U.S. State Project

Research and include the following project in a presentation on Google Slides. 

1. State Capitol, flower, nickname, bird, and flag 

2. What region is it located in?

3. Climate & Physical geography-mountains, deserts, rivers, etc.

4. When the state became part of the U.S.

5. Native American tribes which originated from your state

6. Natural resources from that state and National Parks if any

7. Name top 3 colleges or universities in your state

8. 3 Interesting places to visit

9. 3 Historic places to visit in your state

10. 3 Famous people from your state

11. 3 fun facts

12. Pictures of your state

More than one research item can be combined onto one slide, however proper titles are required for each slide. For example, “State Information” would be the title for the state capitol, flower, nickname, bird, and flag.  

A minimum of 5 slides, maximum of 8, should be present in your project.

1. Create a rough draft of a poster you plan to use for your public service announcement on becoming a U.S. Citizen 
--Inform people of the benefits of becoming a U.S. Citizen.
--Include symbolic images & colors
--Print should be neat; poster should look balanced & eye-catching
--Include a catchy phrase or slogan promoting your cause

2.  If you were lost in the wilderness of Canada, what 10 items would you want to have with you? Make a list & explain why you want each item on the list. All items should fit inside or on top of a backpack.

3.  Study Unit 6 Spelling words (Revised version at the bottom of the spelling list on my webste)

4.  Review terms/vocabulary that will appear on the DPA on Thursday.
5.  Read your AR book for 30 minutes
