Ms. Cantu
My name is Veronica Cantu and I have been a school counselor at JHS, since 2019. I received my Bachelors degree from UTRGV (formerly UTPA) in business administration and completed my teacher certification in bilingual early childhood grades EC-6. After teaching in La Joya and McAllen for some time, I spent time working in the government sector. I returned to education in 2016 as a teacher at Shimotsu. Later, I graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University with a masters degree in education with a major in school counseling. I have continued my professional learning and am also a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I am a therapist with experience helping children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations. I have experience working with children suffering from anxiety, depression, grief, and anger. My passion is in helping children learn healthy coping skills that will allow them to process their emotions in a positive way. Through research based interventions, healthy communication, and therapeutic relationships, I work with students to effectively deal with a variety of problems, and inspire them to do their personal best in their lives. I am excited to work with all of the students and families at JHS and look forward to meeting all of you!
